The Carlos III Health Institute ( ISCIII) , dependent on the Ministry of Health, has estimated that in the week of the heat wave from July 10 to 16, there have been 510 deaths attributable to high temperatures. On Sunday the 10th, 10 deaths were recorded, while Saturday the 16th reached the maximum peak with 150 deaths.
The Daily Mortality Monitoring statistic or MoMo , the ISCIII's statistical estimation instrument, has prepared a daily estimate of deaths due to heat in the last week. On the first day of the heat wave, July 10, 15 deaths were estimated due to high temperatures, and this has increased proportionally as the week has progressed. Thus, the figure grows to 28 deaths on Monday the 11th, 41 cases on Tuesday, July 12, and a figure of 60 on Wednesday the 13th.
According to ISCIII estimates, the figure would have Special Data risen noticeably starting on Thursday, with 93 deaths, one of the worst days of the wave, in which temperatures around 44 or 45ºC were recorded, as was the case in the Tagus, Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys. On Friday the 15th, the panel stood at 123 deaths , and on Saturday, the data reached its maximum peak with 150 deaths .
It should be remembered that the MoMo system prepares statistical estimates for a given day by comparing historical series. "The figures seen in the MoMo Panel are not deceased people (it is not a death record), but the result of statistical calculation in the form of an estimate. In short, it is not correct to say that this heat wave has caused deaths of people" , explains the ISCIII.

In turn, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, wanted to record that it is nothing more than an "estimate" , not "death records that would give the specific cause of death" , before encouraging citizens to follow the health recommendations. in the face of heat, especially children, the elderly or people with pathologies. "I make a call to continue protecting ourselves from this intense heat wave ," said the minister.
