Check Cemefi citing cases such as Walmart

Does the Game make the players or do they determine the game? Recently, the Excelsior newspaper has published a couple of articles regarding the ESR Distinction , the first titled "The Double Discourse of Companies" and the second, "Incredible Certificate" . The speech in both notes is an acid criticism of Cemefi , the Distintivo and the companies that obtain it,  , Pfizer , HSBC , Scotiabank , Eli Lilly , among others. This could mean good news and bad news. At Expok for seven years we have specialized in advising and communicating social responsibility and sustainability . From our perspective, the topic of CSR in business pages has been an isolated topic and when it is addressed, in most cases, it is done superficially and with ignorance. This occasion is no exception. Although in both Excélsior notes the opinions of several specialists are cited, including us, and there may be data that is true, the lack of an adequate context generates a biased connotation of the topic.

The central problems we detected are: that the Phone Number List Badge is made to look like a certificate; that an attempt is made to compare its methodology with that of other tools, which, although related, do not have the same objective; that an attempt is made to make Cemefi appear to be co-responsible for some setbacks in the management of companies that hold said Distinction . In this regard, we consider that Cemefi should clarify this context, which the notes lack. That is, among many actions, you could make an effort to get closer to the media to explain in detail what the ESR Distinction is : an element that accredits companies to their audiences for voluntarily and publicly assuming the existence of socially responsible management and continuous improvement . In this context, clarify that this is a badge and not a certification; that its nature is voluntary and not audit-based; and that the behavior of the companies is not related to Cemefi , but is the absolute responsibility of each organization. Using an analogy, a university cannot be blamed for the poor performance of one of its graduates. Cemefi functions as a promoter of social responsibility , but not as a manager and supervisor of it.



On the other hand, and in particular, we consider that, from now on, as we live in times of social networks and greater scrutiny, it would benefit if some criteria were made public so that in certain cases, where the evidence was compelling, some companies or even the Distinction will be withdrawn . Returning to the starting point in which we think that this situation constitutes good and bad news, we emphasize that it is bad due to the lack of context and misinformation in the notes, but we believe that it is good for two reasons: one, because it raises the issue with notable relevance in the business section; and two, because these notes indirectly give the ESR Distinction the character of a formal initiative to disseminate and understand social responsibility . If CSR is strategic, on this chess board, it is Cemefi 's turn to play .
